October has been an excellent month on the Trinity River, with strong numbers of Steelhead and Salmon moving through the system. The river is in great shape right now—clean water, steady flows, and fish that are more than willing to chase a swung fly.

We’ve been getting plenty of grabs and solid hookups, making for some exciting days on the water. Most of our success has come using light tackle and floating or light sink lines, perfect for covering water efficiently and feeling that unmistakable pull on the swing.

Dialed-In Conditions and Tactics

The fall weather has been cooperative, offering crisp mornings, mild afternoons, and those low, misty starts that make the river feel alive. With water clarity ideal for swinging, our approach has been all about presentation—soft swings, steady tension, and patience through the drift.

We’ve been targeting key holding water—tailouts, riffle transitions, and deep inside seams—where fresh fish pause on their upstream journey. Lighter tips and smaller intruders have been producing consistent results, and a few aggressive fish have even come up for skated dries, delivering heart-pounding surface takes.

Why the Trinity Stands Out

The Trinity River offers something rare in today’s fly fishing world—a combination of accessible swing water, stunning scenery, and fish that test your skill and persistence. Each bend of the river offers a new opportunity: quiet runs framed by golden willows, broad riffles shimmering in afternoon light, and deep pools that hold the promise of a strong fish waiting to crush your fly.

Whether you are chasing your first Steelhead or adding another chapter to your list of memorable battles, the Trinity rewards focus, patience, and good company on the water.

Guided Trips Tailored to You

We specialize in swinging flies on two-handed rods, but every angler’s journey is different. You can choose between:

  • Dedicated Swing Trips – Immerse yourself in classic Steelhead tactics, covering productive runs with a Spey setup.
  • Combo Trips – Mix swinging and indicator fishing for a well-rounded approach and more opportunities throughout the day.

Our goal is simple: to help you connect—with the river, with the rhythm of the cast, and with a fish that feels like it came straight out of a dream.

Steelhead season is in full swing on the Trinity, and there’s no better time to get out and experience the power of a wild fish on the swing. Whether you are new to two-handed casting or a seasoned angler looking for that perfect grab, I’ll have you covered with the right gear, local insight, and plenty of time on the best water.
